“Dirty Old Boston” featured in The Boston Globe’s Best Books of 2014!

0bestbooks-3915When the Union Park Press team got together with Jim Botticelli, founder of the Dirty Old Boston Facebook page, we knew something special would come of it. And it did: Dirty Old Boston: Four Decades of a City in Transition has been a hit. But we were still delightfully surprised and flattered to learn that it made The Boston Globe’s list of Best Books of 2014!

In November, when the Globe first reviewed the book, which features images of Boston from the 1940s through the 1980s, columnist Jan Gardner wrote:

“Dirty Old Boston highlights the fashions, hairstyles, frustrations, and fun of the city’s gritty past: getting stuck in traffic on the Central Artery, riding the roller coaster at Paragon Park in Hull, dancing at the Rat in Kenmore Square. Before-and-after pictures of the New York Streets section of the South End, Scollay Square, and the West End, all destroyed in the name of progress, are here … For Botticelli, ‘Dirty Old Boston,’ more than anything, is a term of endearment for the city that grew up with him.”
