Union Park Press author Chris Klein will speak at Old South Meeting House later this month as part of a Meet the Authors series. The series, hosted by Boston Preservation Alliance, is part of a larger effort by the Old South Meeting House that features authors who take a close look at both contemporary and historic Boston. The event is open to the public and is free for members of either Old South Meeting House or the Boston Preservation Alliance, and is $10 for non-members.
Chris, author of Discovering the Boston Harbor Islands, will share his deep knowledge of one of Boston’s best-kept secrets on Wednesday, March 28th at 5:30 p.m. Many got a glimpse of the Boston Harbor Islands in the blockbuster movie “Shutter Island”, a fictitious island in Boston Harbor, but most don’t realize that the true stories of the 34 Boston Harbor Islands are even stranger than fiction. Come hear Chris share the colorful history of the islands through tales of ghosts, shipwrecks, prisoners of war, and Revolutionary War battles that took place there. This event is ideal for history buffs and Bostonians looking to learn more about their own backyard.
The Boston Preservation Alliance is a nonprofit organization that protects and improves the quality of Boston’s historic buildings, landscapes and communities through advocacy and education. The Old South Meeting House, which has long been a bastion of free speech, places a great deal of importance on educational lectures and engaging talks.
Christopher Klein is also author of The Die-Hard Sports Fan’s Guide to Boston, and has had articles featured in The Boston Globe, New England Travel, and on ESPN.com.
